KDDI Plans to Reach Overseas Customers by Means of Merger and Acquisition

KDDI's president announced at a press conference on December 1, 2010 that the company is considering expanding its business presence in overseas countries starting with Asian markets due to cultural similarities, according to the Nikkei. It is reported that KDDI focuses mainly on the domestic Japanese market, and its major overseas business, providing support services for Japanese corporations, takes up only small portion of the company's overall revenue. The president said that KDDI aims to provide customer-oriented services in the new markets with partner companies, and the company is currently engaging in talks with potential overseas partners for merger and acquisition in Asia.

The Japanese telecom operator also announced that in the first half of the next fiscal year, 50% or more of the mobile phones to be released will be Smartphones.
